Hitachi Energy and Ansaldo Energia Launch Strategic Partnership for Integrated Power Solutions

Hitachi Energy and Italian power generation equipment manufacturer Ansaldo Energia announced a strategic partnership on October 16, 2026, aimed at delivering integrated electricity generation and grid infrastructure solutions to meet the rising global power demand.

Strategic Collaboration for Scalable Energy Solutions

The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combine their expertise in power generation, electrical infrastructure, and grid integration.

The collaboration will focus on developing scalable energy solutions for data centers, industrial facilities, energy hubs, and other electricity-intensive operations.

Integrating Power Generation and Grid Infrastructure

Under the partnership, Ansaldo Energia will contribute its gas turbine and generator technologies, while Hitachi Energy will provide expertise in high-voltage equipment, transformers, power electronics, automation, and grid integration.

The companies plan to develop integrated power solutions compatible with both 50 Hz and 60 Hz electricity networks, allowing the technologies to serve customers across different international markets.

By combining generation equipment with electrical infrastructure, the partnership aims to simplify the development of large-scale power systems and reduce the time required to deliver electricity to end users.

The collaboration will also explore opportunities to improve the flexibility and reliability of power infrastructure as demand increases across industrial and digital sectors.

Rising AI Data Center Demand Drives Power Infrastructure Development

Growing electricity consumption from artificial intelligence, data centers, industrial electrification, and transportation is creating new requirements for power generation and grid infrastructure worldwide.

According to the companies, global electricity demand could nearly double by 2050, increasing the need for reliable and scalable energy systems.

The United States is expected to be an important market for the partnership, particularly as AI infrastructure expansion places additional pressure on electricity generation capacity and transmission networks.

Hitachi Energy and Ansaldo Energia intend to address these challenges by developing solutions that integrate power generation assets with the electrical systems required to deliver electricity efficiently.

The collaboration will target customers seeking dependable electricity supplies while supporting faster infrastructure deployment.

Supporting Data Centers Through Integrated Energy Systems

A central focus of the partnership is the development of end-to-end infrastructure solutions that connect electricity generation, grid equipment, and large-scale consumers. Potential applications include hyperscale data centers, industrial developments, energy hubs, and other facilities requiring substantial and continuous power supplies.

Hitachi Energy also intends to connect its power infrastructure technologies with the HMAX Data Center platform under the broader One Hitachi initiative. The approach is designed to support more integrated management of data center infrastructure, including the coordination of electrical systems and digital operations.

By combining generation technologies with grid integration and digital management capabilities, the companies aim to help customers improve operational flexibility and infrastructure resilience.

Company Leadership Highlights Strategic Collaboration

Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO of Hitachi Energy, highlighted the need to accelerate investment and development across electricity infrastructure as global demand continues to grow. He emphasized that the partnership could help customers access additional electricity capacity more quickly while strengthening the reliability and resilience of their power systems.

Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia, also emphasized the importance of cooperation between power generation equipment manufacturers and grid technology providers. He noted that combining the companies' respective capabilities would support the development of integrated solutions suited to the evolving requirements of large industrial consumers and digital infrastructure operators.

The partnership reflects a shared approach to addressing increasing electricity demand through closer coordination between generation and transmission technologies.

Strengthening Global Power Infrastructure Capabilities

Hitachi Energy provides technologies and services across electricity transmission, distribution, automation, and grid integration. Its operations support utilities, industrial customers, transportation networks, and data center infrastructure worldwide.

Ansaldo Energia, headquartered in Genoa, Italy, specializes in manufacturing and servicing equipment for electricity generation, including gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators.

The company's technologies are installed in approximately 1,000 power plants across 100 countries, providing an established international presence in the power generation sector.

Through the partnership, both companies plan to combine their technical capabilities to develop and commercialize integrated power infrastructure solutions for global markets.

The MoU establishes a framework for future cooperation. However, the companies have not announced specific construction projects, financial commitments, generation capacities, or implementation schedules associated with the agreement.
