Pure DC Completes Third and Final Power Transformer Installation at 90 MW LON01 Campus in North London

Pure Data Centers Group (Pure DC) has completed the installation of the third and final power transformer at its LON01 data center campus in North London, marking the end of an 18-month program to build out the substation that will serve the 90 MW facility.

A Milestone for the LON01 Campus

The newly installed unit is a 75MVA Hitachi transformer, and its arrival completes a three-transformer installation that brings the substation's total capacity to 150MVA. The transformer will support a stable and reliable power supply to the campus's B1 and B2 buildings, with dedicated ductwork already in place for the connection to B2.

Energization is planned for later this month. Once energized, the transformer will complete the dedicated power system serving the campus. Pure DC, one of the fastest-growing hyperscale cloud and AI infrastructure platforms across Europe and the Middle East, describes LON01 as a next-generation, closed-loop, liquid-cooled data center capable of supporting high-density AI inference and cloud workloads.

An Unusually Complex Lifting Challenge

Installing the transformer required an engineered solution to what the company describes as an unusually complex lifting challenge. Restricted space around the live LON01 substation meant that a conventional 500-tonne crane could not be deployed at the site.

Instead, the project team designed and implemented a specialist gantry system with a lifting capacity of 1,000 tonnes, enabling the transformer to be moved safely and precisely into its permanent position.

The lift itself was a tightly controlled, four-hour operation involving Pure DC's project team, MGE Group, logistics partners and specialist suppliers. It followed extensive preparation and coordination to manage the restricted site conditions and to complete the work safely alongside existing infrastructure.

An 18-Month Journey from Colombia

The installation was the culmination of an 18-month program that began with manufacturing in Colombia in March 2025. Following completion of factory testing in June 2026, the transformer travelled by sea to the UK before a carefully coordinated final journey to the campus. The final leg of that journey required detailed route and logistics planning, road closures and local authority approvals to bring the transformer to the North London site.

Powering High-Density AI Workloads

With the substation's capacity now at 150 MVA across three transformers, LON01 is positioned to deliver on its design brief as a 90 MW campus built for modern computational demands. The facility's closed-loop, liquid-cooled architecture is intended to support high-density AI inference alongside cloud workloads, reflecting the direction of demand across the hyperscale sector that Pure DC serves in Europe and the Middle East.

The completion of the dedicated power system serving the campus, once energisation takes place later this month, represents the final major component in the substation build-out. Dedicated ductwork is already in place for the connection to building B2, where the transformer will play its role in supplying the campus's power needs.

A Living Wall Beside Brent Reservoir

Alongside the technical milestones at the substation, Pure DC has set out plans for the environmental features of the campus. After completion of B2, LON01 will be home to one of the world's largest living walls.

Over 750,000 plants will wrap around B2, where they are intended to reduce noise and air pollution, as well as encourage biodiversity of insects and birds. The campus sits next to Brent Reservoir's Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a designation that underscores the sensitivity of the surrounding environment.

What Comes Next

With the third transformer now in its permanent position, attention turns to energization later this month. Once complete, the dedicated power system serving LON01 will be finished, allowing the campus to progress toward delivering its full 90MW of capacity for hyperscale cloud and AI customers.

The project stands as an example of the engineering complexity involved in bringing large-scale power infrastructure into constrained urban sites, where live substations, restricted access and proximity to protected natural environments all shape how work can be carried out. In Pure DC's case, the bespoke 1,000-tonne gantry system proved the difference between a conventional crane lift that could not be performed and a precision installation completed in a four-hour window.
