Vyoma.AI's Chennai AI Factory Campus Breaks Ground on 52 MW Green Data Center in India

The 52 MW AI-ready green data center being built by Vyoma.AI in Chennai is taking shape at a location where operations are already running. The facility, whose construction began with a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony announced on 28 October 2026 from Mumbai, is part of L&T's planned AI Factory campus in the city, a site the company describes as a gigawatt-scale AI hub.

Construction Underway as Capacity Expands at an Already Active Site

That campus currently hosts advanced AI compute clusters in an operational 30 MW facility and is backed by 150 MVA of power infrastructure readiness. With the new build, the Chennai location is set to grow from 30 MW of operating capacity to a combined footprint that includes the 52 MW facility now under construction, within a broader campus envisioned at gigawatt scale.

Vyoma.AI, the integrated AI cloud and hyperscale data center business of Larsen & Toubro, describes the project as purpose-built for next-generation artificial intelligence workloads.

Liquid Cooling and Renewable Energy Anchor the Design

The engineering choices for the facility centre on the thermal and power demands of AI hardware. According to the announcement, the data center will feature advanced direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology, an approach the company says delivers efficient thermal management for servers running intensive AI computations while providing scalability and reliability for its target customers, hyperscalers, neoclouds, and AI innovators.

Sustainability commitments are built into the same announcement. The project will incorporate renewable energy integration and energy-efficient technologies, and the company frames the facility as an example of sustainable, low-carbon digital infrastructure.

Managing Director Frames the Project as a Step for India's Digital Ecosystem

Prashant Chiranjive Jain, Managing Director of Vyoma.AI, said the groundbreaking of the 52 MW Chennai data center marks a significant step in strengthening India's digital infrastructure ecosystem. He noted that as AI adoption accelerates, the data center is being designed to deliver the performance, scalability and resilience required for next-generation workloads, while advancing sustainable, low-carbon digital infrastructure.

The company attributes the project's momentum to the rapid growth of India's digital economy, rising cloud adoption, increasing AI workloads and data localisation needs. Vyoma.AI positions itself as a builder of resilient, scalable infrastructure intended to power the nation's ongoing digital transformation.

Chennai Builds Toward a 250 MW National Target

Beyond the campus gates, the project feeds into Vyoma.AI's wider growth plans. The company says the initiative strengthens its digital infrastructure portfolio and supports a national expansion roadmap targeting over 250 MW of data center capacity across India. According to the company, this commitment reinforces its focus on innovation, sustainability and world-class infrastructure.

The announcement does not detail specific locations or timelines beyond the Chennai campus, but the stated national target indicates the direction of the company's build-out.

Who Vyoma.AI Is and What It Sells

Vyoma is described as L&T's sovereign, secure and integrated AI cloud and hyperscale data centre business, engineered to deliver AI-ready, high-density compute for India and global enterprises. Its offerings include sovereign cloud platforms, GPU-as-a-Service, hyperscale colocation and mission-critical digital infrastructure.

The customer base spans government, BFSI, healthcare, manufacturing and high-compute industries worldwide, and the company says it is built on L&T's legacy of trust, precision and engineering excellence.

The business sits within the larger structure of Larsen & Toubro, a USD 32 billion Indian multinational engaged in EPC projects, hi-tech manufacturing, products and services, operating across diverse domains and multiple geographies.

L&T states that with a strong impetus towards AI and technology, a customer-focused approach and a constant quest for top-class quality, it has attained and sustained leadership in its major lines of business for eight decades.

Vyoma.AI's data center operations reflect the parent company's stated emphasis on AI and technology, connecting L&T's engineering capabilities to the fast-growing market for AI-ready compute infrastructure in India.

Where the Chennai Project Fits in India's AI Build-Out

The groundbreaking adds to the growing supply of AI-capable data center capacity in India. The direct-to-chip liquid cooling design distinguishes the facility as infrastructure aimed specifically at the thermal and power requirements of AI hardware rather than general-purpose enterprise computing. Combined with the operational 30 MW facility at the same campus, the project positions Chennai as a significant node in Vyoma.AI's network.

Execution will rest on several fronts the company has identified: delivering efficient thermal management through liquid cooling, integrating renewable energy and energy-efficient systems, and providing the scalability and reliability that hyperscalers, neoclouds and AI innovators require. The 150 MVA of power infrastructure readiness at the campus provides the foundation on which the expanded capacity will draw.

As India's digital economy grows and data localisation needs intensify, the 52 MW facility stands as the newest concrete commitment in Vyoma.AI's roadmap, with construction beginning following the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony under the banner of L&T's sovereign AI cloud and hyperscale data center business.
