CtrlS Datacenters has inaugurated a data centre in Patna carrying an investment of USD 42.21 million, located in the Patliputra Industrial Area. The facility currently provides 12 MW of IT load capacity, with scope for expansion based on demand, and is intended to serve customers in Bihar and the wider eastern India region.
According to the company, the Patna site will "support the infrastructure requirements of enterprises, government institutions, hyperscalers and technology businesses". CtrlS describes the facility as designed for disaster resilience and energy efficiency, with military-grade security, though it has not released further technical specifications.
The opening adds to the data centre infrastructure available to IT service providers and systems integrators serving eastern India, although the company has not announced any channel partnerships, reseller arrangements or partner programmes connected to the site.
Separate USD 1.06 billion commitment for Bodh Gaya
Alongside the Patna opening, CtrlS has signed a letter of intent with the Bihar government to invest USD 1.06 billion in a proposed 150 MW hyperscale AI factory in Bodh Gaya. The proposed facility represents a separate and larger commitment than the newly operational Patna site.
The letter of intent does not establish when the planned capacity will become operational. CtrlS has not disclosed a construction or commissioning timeline, and details such as power arrangements, customer commitments and implementation milestones remain undisclosed. Founder and CEO Sridhar Pinnapureddy said the investments would strengthen Bihar's digital infrastructure and support the development of its IT ecosystem. He credited the state government's policy environment and incentives with supporting the company's investment plans.
Company points to eastern India opportunity
The two announcements, made together, expand CtrlS' planned footprint in Bihar as demand for AI computing, cloud services and data centre capacity continues to grow. The company says the investments signal a potential expansion of AI and cloud infrastructure options in eastern India for customers and technology partners. It cautions, however, that the extent of that opportunity will depend on when the proposed capacity comes online, how it is equipped, and which customers and service providers ultimately use it.
Part of a wider Tier 2 and Tier 3 rollout
The Bihar developments sit within CtrlS' broader expansion strategy. The company intends to establish more than 20 edge data centres across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India, placing computing capacity closer to emerging demand centres and supporting services that require low latency. CtrlS, which began operations in 2007, says it operates 19 data centres across nine markets in India and plans to build more than 4.4 GW of data centre capacity by 2030. It has not provided a detailed rollout schedule for the planned edge facilities, nor has it specified how much of the 2030 capacity target is operational, under construction or still in planning. The proposed 150 MW AI factory in Bodh Gaya would add to these ambitions, with its timeline, power arrangements and customer commitments yet to be disclosed.
