Lambda Plans $33.1 Billion Investment in AI Data Center Campus in Alabama, US

Lambda, Inc., the company that brands itself as the Superintelligence Cloud, has unveiled plans for a USD 33.1 billion data center development in Lowndes County, Alabama.

The Red Clay Technology Center Campus, prepared for development by Cloverleaf Infrastructure, was announced on November 4, 2026, and is expected to generate more than 1,000 construction jobs as it is built out.

Power Supply and Buildout Schedule

Alabama Power will supply the campus with electricity, pending regulatory approval. Construction is set to begin in early 2027 and may last up to five years.

The site will sit near U.S. Highway 80 and Alabama Highway 21, with final design details to be worked out as planning advances.

Billions in Projected Tax Revenue

Figures previously released by Cloverleaf Infrastructure indicate the project should produce more than USD 2.8 billion in local tax revenue through 2049, of which more than USD 1.6 billion would go to Lowndes County Public Schools.

State and local tax revenue combined is projected at USD 3.4 billion over the same period, and the announcement says the development will generate billions for local schools and the community.

Samita Jeter, who leads Lowndes County Public Schools as superintendent, described the more than USD 1.6 billion in projected school revenue as a significant, long-term investment in the county's educational future.

She said the funds will strengthen school facilities, expand career and technical education programs, and better support students, teachers, and staff, adding that the district sees a chance to explore new incentives for attracting and retaining highly qualified teachers.

Full-Time Roles and Local Workforce Commitments

In addition to construction employment, the campus is anticipated to sustain more than 225 full-time positions across operations, technical, and support functions.

Lambda said it will collaborate with local partners to identify opportunities for county residents to take operational roles and for local contractors to participate in the construction work.

Lowndes County Commissioner Charlie King, Jr., characterized Project Red Clay as a significant investment in the county and its future, noting that Lambda's pledge to hire qualified county residents and contractors will create opportunities for local workers and businesses, and that the expected jobs and tax revenue will improve schools, support community priorities, and create lasting value for residents.

Thomas Ellis, Chairman of the Lowndes County Economic Development Commission, said the county worked hard to secure the investment because it believes in what it will mean for the community's future.

He said the project will bring good-paying jobs, create openings for local businesses, and deliver lasting resources to improve schools, roads, and essential services, giving Lowndes County the ability to shape its future and create opportunities for generations to come.

Shielding Existing Utility Customers

Lambda has committed to covering the full cost of the power and grid infrastructure needed to serve the facility through upfront financial commitments that remain in place even if project plans change, ensuring those costs are not shifted to Alabama Power's existing customers.

Both Lambda and Alabama Power have signed the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge, reinforcing that commitment to local ratepayers.

Cooling Systems and Water Commitments

The facility will use closed-loop cooling technology, which Lambda says significantly reduces water consumption compared with traditional data center cooling.

Lambda also plans to partner with N-Drip to help local farmers conserve water, with the aim of returning at least as much water as the facility consumes.

Site Design and Community Benefits

The campus design incorporates setbacks, buffers, noise-reduction measures, and DarkSky lighting to limit effects on neighboring properties.

Sight-line modeling will inform building placement so the development respects the character of surrounding properties, and Lambda has committed to upholding all requirements set out in the Project Red Clay development agreements with Lowndes County.

Together with Cloverleaf Infrastructure, Lambda is putting USD 10 million into a Community Benefits Agreement with the Central Alabama Community Foundation, working to ensure the money reflects community input and backs locally identified priorities.

Company Leadership on Local Relationships

Stephen Balaban, Lambda's Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, said that building a successful project starts with building strong relationships in the community.

"We want to understand what matters to Lowndes County residents and local leaders and ensure those perspectives inform our approach," he said, adding that the company intends to show up as a good neighbor, keep communication open, and build a relationship that lasts well beyond the project's development.

Michel Combes, Chief Executive Officer at Lambda, called the development a significant and historic investment in Lowndes County and an opportunity to create lasting value for the area.

"We take seriously our responsibility to develop this project thoughtfully, with respect for local resources, existing infrastructure, and community priorities," he said, noting that this responsibility will guide the company's approach as the project moves forward.
