A proposed investment of USD 3.3 billion) by Trentar Private Limited, the technology and infrastructure arm of the Dorf Ketal Group, will support the development of a 500 MW Green Integrated Hyperscale Data Center in Maharashtra.
The memorandum of understanding with the Government of Maharashtra was formally handed over by Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis at a ceremony in Mumbai on October 6, 2026, as part of the Invest Maharashtra initiative and in line with the state's long-term economic development vision.
The project has already progressed beyond initial interest: the state has issued a Letter of Intent setting out the applicable support and incentives. Under the MoU, the Maharashtra government will facilitate coordination on applicable permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances and incentives in accordance with prevailing policies and regulations.
Dorf Ketal's Speciality-Chemical Base Repurposed for Digital Infrastructure
For Trentar, the proposed facility represents its entry into large-scale digital infrastructure built for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. For its parent group, the announcement signals a significant step into the digital infrastructure sector.
Dorf Ketal, established in 1992, has built a global specialty-chemicals business serving demanding industrial applications, and the company states that its experience in process engineering, utilities, thermal management, water treatment, energy efficiency and continuous operations provides a foundation for the proposed project.
Mr Subodh Menon, Group Founder and Vice Chairman of Trentar Private Limited, said, "Maharashtra has laid a strong foundation for India's digital economy, and we are proud to contribute to the State's next phase of growth. For more than three decades, our Group has delivered complex, mission-critical infrastructure through engineering excellence and operational discipline. We will bring that experience to a modular Data Center campus built for rapid deployment and scalable growth, with sustainability, advanced technology and cost efficiency at its core."
51% Renewable Energy Target Anchors Campus Design
The campus design carries a target of sourcing at least 51% of its energy from renewable sources, supported by in-house energy storage and a water-efficient cooling architecture. Trentar intends to combine capabilities across energy storage, power systems, resource management and digital technologies in delivering the project. The company is also weighing treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling options, with final technology choices to be settled through detailed design and feasibility studies.
Compute Capacity Aimed at AI, Analytics and Sovereign Infrastructure
The proposed facility is intended to help meet India's growing demand for big-data analytics, large-scale data processing, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence and machine learning.
According to the company, by supporting these strategically important applications, the facility will contribute to a more secure, resilient ,and sovereign digital infrastructure for the country. Trentar positions the Green Integrated Data Center as the cornerstone of its digital infrastructure platform, describing it as a scalable, sustainable backbone for AI, cloud, high-performance computing and data-intensive applications.
