PT Tigabelas Solusi Nusantara (TSN), an Indonesian technology company, inaugurated a data center in Lamongan, East Java, inaugurated on Tuesday, October 13.
The facility is designed to enable internet service providers (ISPs) to exchange network traffic locally rather than routing through major hubs such as Jakarta or Surabaya.
Internet Exchange Soft Launches Alongside the Facility
Along with the data center's opening, TSN soft-launched IIX-JI, an internet exchange point intended to facilitate the exchange of network traffic within the region.
The facility currently hosts 70 companies with equipment installed across 14 server racks.
Stability Gains for the Plat S Region
The new data center allows ISPs to position their networks closer to users, potentially shortening data transmission times.
It also aims to improve connection stability within the Plat S region, which comprises Lamongan, Tuban, Bojonegoro, Mojokerto, and Jombang.
Cost and Speed Benefits for Providers
Syamsul Arifin, President Director of TSN, said that local access would result in faster network responses.
According to the report, the development also lowers operating costs for internet providers.
Officials Point to Broader Digitalisation Effects
Arif Bachtiar, secretary of the Lamongan Regency Communications and Informatics Office, described the opening as a new milestone for internet connectivity and digitalisation in Lamongan.
Separately, Yosvensa Setiawan, chairman of the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) East Java regional board, noted that building data centers outside major cities helps address the uneven distribution of digital infrastructure.
