Siemens Invests in Skeleton Technologies to Expand Data Center Technology Portfolio

Rapid changes in electricity demand are becoming a challenge for AI data center operators seeking to increase computing capacity.

Siemens is addressing that issue through a strategic investment and exclusive global partnership with Skeleton Technologies, adding supercapacitor-based systems to its electrical infrastructure portfolio.

Stabilizing Power for High-Density Computing

AI processors can change their power requirements within milliseconds. When thousands operate together, those changes can create megawatt-scale demand swings within seconds.

Skeleton’s supercapacitors are designed to absorb these fluctuations, helping protect equipment and reduce disturbances to the electricity grid. Siemens says the technology can support greater computing density while limiting costly upgrades to existing facilities.

The offering supports installation in existing alternating-current infrastructure and retrofit projects, alongside a pathway towards future 800V direct-current designs.

Exclusive Partnership Builds on Existing Ties

Under the agreement announced on October 14, 2026, Siemens receives exclusive rights to sell and scale Skeleton’s products in the data center market.

The arrangement extends a relationship that began with technology cooperation in 2022 and investment in 2023. The transactions remain subject to customary completion formalities.

US Expansion Moves Manufacturing Closer to Customers

Skeleton said the Siemens-led funding round values the company at more than USD 1 billion. The investment will primarily accelerate US manufacturing expansion and research and development in Silicon Valley.

The company plans to invest more than USD 200 million in operational scale-up and Silicon Valley R&D. Planned domestic cell manufacturing would establish a US production chain covering both cells and complete power systems, bringing supply closer to hyperscale customers.

Turning Electrical Capacity Into Computing Performance

Skeleton combines its proprietary Curved Graphene material with power electronics and system controls to manage fast-changing AI workloads. The company reports potential energy savings of up to 40% and double-digit improvements in GPU performance.

By pairing this technology with Siemens’ industrial infrastructure expertise, the companies aim to help operators extract more computing performance from available power while expanding the supply of systems designed for AI facilities.
