Equinix Commissions SG6 Data Center in Singapore With $290 Million Investment and 20 MW Potential

Equinix has brought its sixth Singapore data center online, unveiling SG6 on November 6, 2026, as a facility built from the ground up for artificial intelligence and data-intensive computing.

The International Business Exchange (IBX) site represents an initial outlay of roughly USD 290 million and joins a worldwide network exceeding 280 data centers operated by the company (Nasdaq: EQIX).

Equinix SG6 Launches With 8 MW Capacity for AI Workloads

The first phase of SG6 delivers 8 MW of capacity across approximately 1,550 cabinets, with full build-out expected to reach up to 20 MW of IT capacity.

According to Equinix, the design accommodates power-intensive GPU infrastructure through proprietary cooling systems and liquid-cooling capabilities. SG6 is among the first data centers developed under Singapore's Data Centre Call for Application framework.

The company positioned the opening against a backdrop of accelerating global spending on AI, cloud, and digital services, saying the facility combines private interconnection and global ecosystems to help organizations deploy distributed workloads across regions.

Executives Frame Singapore as Regional Gateway

Chief Executive Officer and President Adaire Fox-Martin said Singapore sits at the intersection of global commerce, digital technology, and sustainable development.

With Equinix having invested in the country for nearly 25 years, she described Singapore as one of the company's most important markets globally and said the new facility expands its role as the neutral exchange where enterprises connect to the clouds, networks, and partners they need to innovate and grow.

Cyrus Adaggra, President, Asia-Pacific, pointed to AI adoption, cloud expansion, and data-intensive workloads as drivers of what he called unprecedented demand for high-performance digital infrastructure in the region.

He characterized Singapore as a strategic gateway connecting key markets, talent, and innovation ecosystems and said SG6 strengthens Equinix's ability to support customers scaling across Asia-Pacific with resilient, interconnected, and sustainable infrastructure.

Efficiency Design Tied to Net Zero Commitments

SG6 is engineered for a Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.20 and is targeting Green Mark Platinum certification. The building incorporates rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting capabilities, and construction materials with lower embodied carbon.

The facility forms part of Equinix's Future First sustainability strategy, which commits the company to net zero emissions by 2040 under science-based targets and to 100% renewable energy coverage globally across its retail IBX data centers by 2030. Equinix's Singapore sites have already run on 100% renewable energy since 2020.

University Partnership to Add Co-Innovation Facility in 2027

In partnership with the National University of Singapore, Equinix plans to open a Co-Innovation Facility at SG6 in 2027.

The CIF will concentrate on technologies aimed at improving data center sustainability and energy efficiency, including liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins, and battery energy storage systems.

Two Decades of Expansion Across the City-State

Equinix entered Singapore in 2002 with a single facility and has since grown to six data centers, forming one of Asia-Pacific's most densely interconnected digital infrastructure hubs.

Its Singapore operations link enterprises to providers across cloud, IT, financial services, communications, media, and technology, with connectivity to global markets supported by more than 17 subsea cable systems.

The company described SG6 as giving customers the infrastructure to connect, innovate, and scale in an economy increasingly shaped by AI.
